Hi everyone – Fiona here,
Just a quick update to let you know that you can now track Paul’s latest position using Google Earth. He is carrying a GPS Data Logger and uploading a file every day which shows us his location throughout the day. Try it out – it gives a fantastic feeling for the scale of the trek into basecamp. Try adjusting your viewing angle so that you’re closer to the ground to get a better feel for the surrounding landscape.

We’d like to thank OHARARP LLC for providing the GPS Data Logger and iMapping Ltd for their Geo Location services and assistance with getting this up and running.
Bye for now,
Fiona
This is fabulous!!!
How many surprises is waiting for us ahead?;)
thanks, Fiona

Excellent! This is by far the best GPS map I have ever seen! Interesting how the Icefall is called The Football Field.

I was literally going to post a request yesterday that Paul do something like this! 😀 I’m a very visual thinker, and LOVE maps…! Will this apply on the mountain as well?
Wheeeeee!

Dear Adler Clan,
I am very glad to help you all out on your trek! It’s been quite an experience thus far and a very unique marrying of technologies that Paul has put together on this trek via the website. Good luck to all!

Love, love, love your updates and tracking your progress via the Google Earth site is spectacular. I have always been infatuated with Everest and I have never fully understood or could comprehend the geography of the area. It’s massive! This tool will help immensely! Best of luck as you continue ‘upward!’ Stay healthy and strong! Hello Fiona!
Joanna, in WI USA
I stayed with the Hayles for the last couple of days and all were talking about the adventure and everyone wished you all the best. We had an amazing feast yesterday (Shelley’s working the weekend so celebrations were early) with mexican dip, bbq fish/seafood, loads of vegies and salads, wine, hot cross buns, etc! And a spa after lunch of course. Molly was very hospitible to Sammy and they seemed to enjoy each other’s company. Sam was very well behaved, but was not too big a fan of the daily hilly walks in the Hayles neighbourhood – she’d be no good in Nepal.
Jenny and Geoff are enjoying their extra leisure, Kylie booked the girls trip to NZ for us, Amanda has to have knee re-co so Andrew will have to do the housework. I had a great time and was looked after like you would not believe. Beats roughing it on Everest.
Shelley has to work tonight so we slept in and worked out this morning. Tomorrow I am cooking up a brunch feast.
Stay safe and continue to enjoy!

This is such a good one, downloaded the updated 3D imagery;) also saw the static view option. Would it be possible to post one picture a day as well. I mean about their progress something similar as Fiona put here in her post? that looks cool without GE4. thx
Found it, Fiona thanks:) just updated Paul’s latest post.. great:) Mira
Hi Mira,
We were thinking along the same lines with the daily GPS location post. I’ve actually included an extra pic of this in Paul’s latest post of their trek around Khumjung and between Nick and I, we plan to do this every day. We thought it might be better to include it in an existing post otherwise we’d be bombarding everyone with another email. The only problem with this is that depending on what time the post is done, there might be a delay in getting the GPS image inserted.
By the way, this is the first time I’ve really started using Google Earth and I’m hooked already. Went exploring all across the world the other night. No need to actually travel now! :>
Cheers,
Fiona
I’m hooked too! love to spend hours flying around the world. Also checked the other side of Everest (the other Hungarian team is coming from Tingri:) I have used Google Earth sometimes earlier but without special purpose I guess you cannot become addicted but following the expedition is just so different:)) I have found a good excuse spending hours sitting in front of GE4;) No need to travel actually….you are right, but from day by day – as I keep reading msg and posts here – make me feel I would love to go to EBC next year;) I guess, I should do some exercise, shouldn’t i?:) I guess Tim could give me some tips what to do (stepmasters;) this year just my spirit is there. When are you leaving to Nepal?
