Paul to make a second summit attempt

May 24, 2006 By blogadmin

We have received confirmation from Fiona that Paul has departed South Col to make a second summit attempt.

A recent email from Eric Simonson of IMG provides more information:

“Dear Friends,
9:35pm Nepal time
Here we go again!
Jangbu reports that Dan, Jim, Pemba Dorje & Tashi Tshering left South Col at 9:20 and that Paul and Tashi Dorje are getting ready to head out a few minutes behind them. The new weather forecast is for “more of the same” which is good news. We don’t expect to hear from them until they get to the Balcony in 4-5 hours. We’ll keep you posted!”

We will continue to post updates as we receive them. Best of luck to Paul as he embarks upon this incredibly difficult endeavour.

Tim Adler.

This is such great news, just what I was hoping to hear. Get right back at it after the disappointment of last night. Paul’s obviously still feeling strong, to give it another go with probably very little sleep.
They should be about 4 hours into the climb, should be approaching The Balcony, we should get an update from there.
Dad A: you should be very proud! I’m praying for God’s strength and protective hand on Paul these next hours.
Go Paul! Go Jim and Dan as well!
    You can do it.
    Blessings to you all,

    Dear Paula & Fiona,
We are speechless! Also got chills & everything. What a great development. Paul, we are sending all of the positive vibes that the human race can. We even built a small Everest mock-up, with a Paul doll on top. This is even more inspiring than if you made it the first time. What a movie this’ll make! The Da Vinci Code doesn’t have anything on you: you 2 are truly the masters!
    Most love & good wishes,

Paul, all the best for your attempt today. If the strength and wishes of your followers are an indication you’ll have no problems this time. Good luck and God speed and take care of you.
To all those who helped bring the story, thank you, thank you, thank you.

We are all willing you up the mountain, Paul. Making it or not, you are a true hero in our eyes. And, Phil (Sydney), I’m sure Fiona felt like she had you in her backpack for the duration of her climb, along with another dozen or so very heavy people. I can see it’s going to be another day of checking the computer every 5 minutes or so for updates. We can’t wait to hear of the Adler family, be they ascending or descending. Please be safe.

Why doesn’t this surprise me! All the best Paul and what a wonderful description Fiona – you need to write a book as I almost felt I was in your footsteps the way you described the final climb. I was thinking about you two in the tent, what difficult and mixed emotions you must have felt, far more difficult to deal with than climbing Everest. What a lot you two must be learning about yourselves and your relationship. Fantastic achievements guys – Rosemary & Dave

Fiona, I’m pinching myself at the realisation that you have accomplished such an incredible dream. It’s a special and very personal feeling to actualise your dreams no matter how wild they are. Congratulations! Paul boy o boy you sure do have some bad luck, however you can take much out of this experience espcially your health and your good wife – there will be other opportunities and you will only grow from this. Much love and special thoughts Katrina & the Cuskelly family.

Paul – Not that you need inspiration or motivation, but just a reminder of the thoughts on “strength” that we shared a couple of years ago. STRENGTH: willing yourself where others wont, and doing the things that others dont, to achieve the things that others cant. All the best mate. I’ve no doubt that your self belief and determination will see you through. DJ

Dear Mary, Fiona and Paul What a journey. Congratulations to 3 of you for showing such strength and courage. I will miss the daily updates- it was the best thing to access emails every day and read the marvellous stories. I have learned so much. I’m glad it’s over safely- it was like reading a thriller story that was a bit frightening and so you wanted to hurry to the end. Safe journey home. Love AD
