Congratulations Paul on achieving your Everest. It is great to know that you are through the icefall and almost at Basecamp and we can all breathe a sigh of relief. Thank you for allowing us to share your experiences from the comfort of our homes. It has been an amazing 2 year journey to Everest for all of us. I wondered what was harder for you Fiona – climbing Everest or waiting at Basecamp for Paul to climb Everest? Enjoy the days ahead Fiona and Paul.

    Hi Fiona & Paul,
Thanks for the news that Paul is through the worst of the ice fall. At work finding it very hard to concentrate until the news came through. Enjoy the ‘short walk’ back to base camp and enjoy celebrating both of your achievements tonight. I’m looking forward to the next update. Congratulations again Paul and do you have any fingernails left Fiona? Denise

I have so far refused to use the word CONGRATULATION…as I believed it a bad omen before you were all the way down at BC. Too many times over the last years had I seen people being congratulated only to have a problem on the way back
But hey ….I think even I ” allegedly” can get through that last section of the Icefall 🙂
    so here it is
I officially Congratulate you on summiting Everest and getting back down safe.

Well done Buddy hope it was all you hoped it would be and more.

Can’t wait to hear all of the details

Great to have a visual of Paul and Fiona reuniting and the celebrations. Thanks, too, for the reminder that the descent from Camp 4 is no “picnic”. I will take that into consideration as I visualize Pat and Mike and their team on their descent. The icefall is no easy task, and it is easy to lose sight of that when focusing on the yellow band, the Geneva Spur and all that we have followed on the ascent! Here’s to visualizing a great reunion of Paul, Attilla, Mike, Mike, Pat and Anna (and others) at base camp! Candles are lit, positive thoughts are affirmed and released to unfold.

Congratulations on reaching your goal Paul, a well-deserved reward for your thoroughness, perserverance, strength and courage.
Now the news you are together at last and through the worst part of the ice means I can relax along with the rest of the multitude of the Adler army.
Congratulations on your anniversary Fiona what an amazing day for you.
You have done so well summitting physically last year and mentally and emotionally this year, both journeys incredibly hard for you but I suspect this one was the more difficult in many ways. How great your reunion, could be a movie in that????
What great strengths you both take on the rest of your journey together.
    Well done!
Love and a big hug from Kathy

I echo Cas’s feelings . I couldn’t congratulate you until we heard that you were safely through the ice-fall once and for all . Now that you are safe-our warmest congratulations to you both for a great team effort. But Pleease….no more !
    THIS IS IT!
My life was peaceful when I was blssfully ignorant of ice falls and south summits and wind speed! Now I have not a minute’s rest….and Fiona what about your poor mother and father? …how much more can they drink, er, I mean, take ?

Enjoy your victory and then head for home for more achievements of a safer nature ….eg. tandem bike riding , visitng nanna in Frankston without a safety harness and such like.
We admire your mental toughness and perseverance . These qualities have inspired a world of followers. Now we very much look forward to your safe return and your smiling faces in person.

    well done, stay safe
    Love
    Sandy and John

Paul, I can’t describe how overjoyed I was to hear your interview on 774 just as I arrived home and to know that you were safely back at Base Camp with Fiona (and clean too!). Hard to fathom two oxygen incidents. I’m just relieved that you get more and more to breathe as you head home. Not sure of Attila’s whereabouts but I’m really pleased that he was able to take in the view from the top too. Enjoy that summit cake and sleep well. Fiona, I don’t know how you kept it all together. See you both soon (unless that warm, sunny beach is beckoning). Love from Liz.

Way to go, Paul! Am so, so relieved to hear you’re safe at Base Camp with Fi by your side. Brilliant! What a ride, it’s been simply amazing following your exploits once more. So happy for you! Enjoy the thick air of Base Camp, and hopefully a feast tonight fit for a King!

    Paul,
We are very pleased to hear that you’re safe at Base Camp and that you negotiated the dangerous sections of the descent successfully. Good to hear that your eyes are improving and hopefully more hospitable conditions at Base Camp will lead to resolution of the chest infection also.

Although we had a drink last night, we have waited until tonight (when we heard you have got through the ice fall ok) to open the champagne…we are opening a bottle of Moet which Dame and Beck brought back from France for us (for a special occassion and what is more special than this???) and are sharing it with Marg and Neil and Nick and Tomi who are here with us tonight for dinnner…. ( M and N have just arrived with a bottle of Chandon and send their love too!!!)
Dad and I listened to your interview with Lindy tonight with tears in our eyes…..; it is all so special…we are so proud of you both and can’t wait to see you when you get home.
    all our love

    HI Paul,
So glad to hear you are safely down through the ice fall. It must have been wonderful to find Fiona coming to greet you. I listened to the interview with Lindy, but look forward to a written account as it was a little hard to understand – probably the Aussie accent to my American ears. I look forward to hearing that Pat is also down to EBC and to reading all your stories. Good trekking out and again, congratulations!

Paul’s Everest Climb 2007

In 2007, Paul returned to climb Mt Everest after missing out on reaching the summit by 100 metres the previous year. In 2006, Paul and Fiona both climbed together and although Fiona successfully summited, problems with Paul's oxygen system forced him to turn around. On 23 May 2007, exactly a year to the day later, he reached the summit. This is the daily blog from this climb.
