Location: Monjo
Altitude: 2750 metres
Weather: Perfect walking weather – sunny until later in the afternoon.

Hi everyone it’s Margaret here.

Now at Monjo
We have arrived at Monjo which is 2750 metres and are staying in one of the lodges – twin rooms with an ensuite!! We were up very early this morning in order to be at the airport to catch a flight to Lukla at 6.00am. The flight was only 30 minutes but it was certainly spectacular and the landing was incredible. After a cup of tea the porters headed off with our gear and we followed soon after with our guides.

Starting the Trek
The walk to Monjo was fantastic – the landscape, people, the quietness, yaks walking past us, vegetation, everything as well as the weather being perfect. I managed the walk very well (even the bridges) and we are resting now in preparation for our trek to Namchee tomorrow.

Group Bonding
Last night we dined at RumDoodle – the restaurant where Fiona signed her name and can now eat there for free for life (although it’s a long way to come most weekends!). Beck is much better and is improving all the time. The group is great and we have all bonded together with Cas as our surrogate husband!!! (He is telling everyong that he has 6 wives but that he is long on Australian and hopes to swap a couple further up the track to balance his portfolio!) We are having lots of laughs and are all so supportive of each other. We are looking forward to Namchee where we will stay for 2 nights.

Cheers for now and love and best wishes Marg

Hi it’s Cas here –

Just wanted to say hello to my boys and Grazia. I miss you all already. The girls have kinda excepted me into their flock and I have even been allowed to say the odd word or two during the day. I will write some more soon.

Lots of love
Cas

What a great photo of all of you! Great smiles, looks like you are having fun.
Julia, I can’t believe you are there! Just one week ago I was looking at photos of Tim, Paul, and Dame every day and now all of you are there. Have a pleasant and safe hike to Namche tomorrow. Beck, good to hear you are better now.

Paul, congratulations on making it back down to Base Camp through the icefall safely. We are thinking of you.

Tim says hello and wanted to know Beck if you were on the Cipro? Love,
    Inna.

    Hi Marg and everyone,
Congratulations on your achievements so far – I guess all the training starts to kick in from now on. Marg I’ve been anticipating a photo of you crossing a swing bridge and it’s happened already. No problems at all!? It’s great that everybody is getting on so well – does Cas ever get a word in? Hope Beck continues to feel well.
Everything is fine here, there’s even been some rain.
Good luck for the trek to Namche – hope the weather continues to be kind.
    bye for now
    Love, Neil

    Hi Girls and Cas!

Great shot! Seems you are enjoying your trip very much!:) I am getting to be ‘jealous’ here on the quite flat Hungarian land…:)

Fiona, just a quick question about how this system works? Do you just get the comments are posted after your daily update, (same applies for Paul) or you both receive all the messages? Practically i was wondering if I want to send some messages to you and Paul do I need to place it twice (or in two different places) or once is enough?;)

Hope you had a smooth way up till Namche (probably you are going to read my lines afterwards) and wishing you all the best on your way up till EBC.
    Best, Mira

Hi, its the Camden Road gang here – in the rain!!!
This message is more for Liz, but it is wonderful to get the daily reports from all of you and to hear that everything has started off so well. I am saving these pages so I can print them off for the grandparents without computers. Speaking of Audrey (Liz’s Mum), she just happened to cook far to much of last nights dinner 😉 so she is bringing the left-overs to us this afternoon – but perhaps that is an excuse to come over and have a look at the web site. We are all well.
    Lots of love … Gavan
PS Liz – remember to keep taking photos – especially of the plants.

Looks like beautiful weather, sounds like you are having a great time together soaking up the landscape. We guess you be in Namche when you read this, so congrats on getting up the hill! Look forward to hearing all about your walk in, have some momos for us,

Hope everything is going well so far for all of you. I’ll follow your trek in as if I were there with you girls… and guys! I was there last year at about the same time, so when I close my eyes, I can see the landscape you’re describing… and feel the same feelings of well being, happiness and achievement. I wish I was there with you. Maybe next time! I’ll bring a piece of you with me on Kilimanjaro…

    Have a nive trip!

Wonderful to hear from you Marg and to see that you have tripped across the bridge like little Billy Goat Gruff and are smiling as well !
It sounds really like another world and I am sure you think it’s been worth the effort to have this unique experience. Tell Denise that the Bulldogs beat the Hawks by 17 points this arvo , but restrain her from throwing herself off the next swing bridge because both teams made lots of errors -the Dogs just made a few less !
Take lots of photos and remember the all the sights and sounds to tell us later.
You will fly up the Namchee hill now you’ve started.
Cas sounds a very brave, and soon to be very deaf, man- give him some talk time.
Love to you all, Sandy and John

Hey there family, extended family and other happy trekkers!
Well you appear to be having a great time, and it sounds like it too which is fantastic!! Make sure you enjoy showering whilst you still can….Mark and I had a great weekend up in Lismore and Dad and Leah took super care of the dogs (albeit one currently toenail-less). Hope the weather stays as beautiful as the photos depict and take care all of you.
    With love, Jacqueline and Mark

Paul’s Everest Climb 2007

In 2007, Paul returned to climb Mt Everest after missing out on reaching the summit by 100 metres the previous year. In 2006, Paul and Fiona both climbed together and although Fiona successfully summited, problems with Paul's oxygen system forced him to turn around. On 23 May 2007, exactly a year to the day later, he reached the summit. This is the daily blog from this climb.
