In Pheriche – Bag Missing

May 25, 2007 By blogadmin 5 Comments

Hi everyone, Nick here, sorry there was no post last night.

Paul and Fi left basecamp yesterday and walked down to Pheriche but a bag with the vital comms gear in it was misplaced… and they couldn’t post an update. They hope to meet up with the bag in Namche. More as soon as I hear it. Nick

    Paul,
Thank you for sharing this experience. Your decision to embark on this challenge is bold, but your decision to share it with others, warts and all, is in my view even bolder. Having just reread you account of summit day, I’m sitting quietly and savouring it. Your description of Fiona unexpectedly appearing to greet you was really moving. As I read this entry I could hear an emotive movie sound track engulfing the moment, but this was real life!
Congratulations to you, Fiona, Nick, your families, the support walking teams, the Sherpas and the Asian Trekking crew. As you say, it truly was a team effort. That said your personal determination, strength and mental clarity on summit day is truly inspirational. Congratulations Paul, on making it there and back. I’m inspired, and thank you again for giving me the opportunity to vicariously experience your journey.
    Kerry xo
PS Fi – looking forward to the next gals gathering with you at the table.

Hi there Fiona & Paul – I’m just having a glass of bailleys and thought of you!! There’ll be one for you too when you get back. I hope the walk down was ok – it is a very long way and I had forgotten all the uphills I had to overcome before arriving at the destination. Enjoy your night and ensuite in Namche – we decide it was the best lodge although we didn’t stay at the White Yak in Pheriche. Have you got your luggage yet? Is a porter bringing it down for you or will it travel by yak? We moved Leah into her flat yesterday and it is looking very nice. There is still a little bit of painting to be done. Last night we went to John Addison’s birthday and played minigolf and had dinner – it was a fun night. Tomorrow I am going out with jenni M and the other girls for a special birthday lunch in the Yarra valley which will be very good. Life is going on as usual although every day is full. Z&Z send their love. Can you have Milly for us??? something good to look forward to. Love and best wishes Mumxx

Paul’s Everest Climb 2007

In 2007, Paul returned to climb Mt Everest after missing out on reaching the summit by 100 metres the previous year. In 2006, Paul and Fiona both climbed together and although Fiona successfully summited, problems with Paul's oxygen system forced him to turn around. On 23 May 2007, exactly a year to the day later, he reached the summit. This is the daily blog from this climb.
