Hi it’s Paul here.

We had a great night out in Kathmandu yesterday, visiting the Rumdoodle restaurant. This is a place made famous by its impressive collection of signatures of Everest summiteers, going back as far as Edmund Hillary.

Adding names
Fiona, Dennis & Jim added their signatures to the list of climbers who have summited Everest, and handed over two passport photos to became members of the Rumdoodle club. This entitles them to free food for life at the restaurant. We made good use of this perk last night!

Meeting other climbers
We met lots of other climbers there, and sitting on the rooftop in the cool evening air, reminisced over stories of everyone’s trip. It seemed that almost all the climbers in Kathmandu were here. It was great to meet climbers from the North side too, and hear their stories. They had it a bit more luxurious than us, as they can get vehicles to base camp, and yaks to the equivalent of our camp 2.

Flights home
Still waiting for confirmation of flights home – if we are going to get the flight today we need to leave for the airport in about 1 hour!

All packed and ready to go,
Paul.

Paul, Fi and Mary to arrive Melbourne Thursday night
Glad to be back in Kathmandu!

Hi Paul and Fi. Thought I’d leave one final message. So sad that it is all over and soon I won’t have the daily updates to read. Melbourne is sunny and chilly at the moment so I’m sure you’ll feel right at home. Look forward with catching up with you Fiona when you return to MBS to study. Thanks for the wonderful adventure that I’ve shared with you both. I already have an vague plan forming in my head about a trip to the Himalayas when my son is old enough. Cheers, Justine

Fiona, you look extremely happy signing the wall at the Rumdoodle restaurant. Did you leave a space next to your name in case Paul comes back to Everest one day?
Well, I will leave you with a quote as you are heading back home to all your loved ones (you had to know I would sign off with a quote!!!) MC

Good going Fiona! I was hoping to see a photo of you signing the wall at the Rumdoodle!! Had REALLY wanted to myself, but still might. Will have to return one day when my daughter is old enough (given she’d want to attempt it with my husband and I !!) and give it a shot again then!!
Have a safe trip home. Going to really miss your daily dispatches.
    Namaste

I am just a stranger who googled for “oxygen at altitude” and stumbled across your website. I live in Santa Fe, USA and love to climb, though nothing compared to you guys. I just climb local hills maybe 4200 m high. Great website, makes me want to climb Mt. Everest myself!
