Everest Update 7.45 a.m.

May 23, 2006 By paul.adler

Fiona is travelling really well and she and Mingma are not far from the Summit.

Unfortunately Paul has had a problem with his oxygen* and has had to turn back to Camp 4. The problem is only with the oxygen, HE IS FINE.

More news when I know it.
Mary

*Update: Please Note: it does appear that the oxygen problem was not due to any gear malfunction, but rather, unfortunately, due to operator error. Nick Grainger for site admin team.

SUMMIT! SUMMIT! SUMMIT !

A group of us in Montomery, Alabama (Deep South USA) have been following your progress every day since you arrived and love your chatty postings. Our frind Dr. Lrry Rigsby (whose cimbing team lost two of the sherpas) was on the mountain with you, but unfortunately had to turn back for health reasons. Our prayers are with you both, not for achieving your dream, for you have already done that, summit or not, but for a safe return. God Bless.

Hi Mary – Way to go, Fiona; good job, Paul, for turning back. I am so very curious to know what is going on and that he is indeed OK. Will he be attempting the top once again from Camp 4? Man, I can imagine he has a lot going through his head right now. He made the right choice though. Hoping he gets down safely, as does Fiona. I don’t want to go to bed tonight – I can’t wait to hear more! Prayers continued from WI, USA!

    Hi Fi & Paul
Paul, I am so sorry you had problems with the O2. Praying you make it down to C4 safely. Keep positive, you made the right call. Rest at C4 and regroup; if you still feel strong and able, will you attempt again Tuesday night? If the weather holds and your health is OK, then it should be a strong possibility.
Fiona, I am so proud of you, girl! Go! Stand on top of the world! You can do it. I’m trying to picture what you are experiencing, right now at 9:06 am your time, as I type this here…..it gives me goosebumps. Relax and smile and enjoy your time on the Summit — you so, so deserve it.
Continued prayers for your safety and success,
    Mark R
