Everest Report 2.45 a m.

May 23, 2006 By paul.adler

The Balcony

As you can imagine, it is very difficult for either Paul or Fiona to have any sort of conversation with Base Camp as they are wearing oxygen masks and really concentrating on their climb.

Their Sherpas have radioed in that they have both reached “the Balcony” and things are fine.

I am sleeping (very lightly) in the Communications Tent, so will pass on news when I hear it.

They are right on schedule. It normaly takes about 6 hours for most climbers to reach the Balcony.

Further to Mary’s posting, Eric from from IMG reports (I believe ‘everyone else’ includes Paul & Fiona):
    “1:20pm Washington time.
    2:05am Nepal time
Just talked to Tucker at Base Camp. He says that Dave and Danuru have already left the Balcony and that everyone else is at the Balcony, taking a break, leaving soon, doing fine. Weather is OK. So far so good!

Dear Paul, Fiona, Mingma and Dasona,
Oh what joyous new to wake to. I couldn’t believe it when I got up and my ISP was temporarily down, so I couldn’t read the latest 2 updates. However, all is rectified and I am too thrilled for words to hear of your progress to The Balcony. Safe, safe, safe, safe climbing and we wish you sure-footedness on your descent. We are with you all the way. Cheers–Valerie & Rummy

Go Fi & Paul! From pizzas in Kathmandu (was it really that long ago?) to mediterranian chicken near the summit – is this the ultimate gastronomic everest climb? It’s been a wonderful jouney – many thanks for sharing it. Supposed to be marking assignments, but can’t concentrate – students will have to wait! I’m glued to your site. Savour the moment, take lots of happy snaps, and return safely.
    love and best wishes, jan

Congratulations and best wishes for today’s climb – have been reading your news daily (as are many at St.Leonard’s) We are very proud of your achievment, and wish you every success – wherever you get to you’ve already achieved so much.as John Willis used to say – altitude can effect many people – do as your body tells you.
