Hi, it’s Chris here.
Bridget and I have now arrived at base camp. It has been snowing most of the afternoon, but it is not too cold in the dining tent which we are in at the moment.
Bridget and I have had a great past three days, with the highlight being getting engaged!!!
I proposed to Bridge in our lodge room three nights ago. The was no light so we were in the dark, looking at each other with our headtorches. I was planning to ask Bridge the next day on top of Kala Patar, the highest point in our trip, and also the best view of Everest, but I was getting too nervous and couldn’t wait that long!
The next day we did climb Kala Patar, which was fantastic. There are almost 360 degree views, including a great view of Everest (it can’t be seen from base camp).
We gave Passang our camera and to take a couple of photos and he took about 30! There has to be at least one good one that we can enlarge!
Hi it’s Bridget here. It’s been an exciting few days, with a great surprise from Chris! I wonder if we hold some kind of record for a high altitude engagement?!
We have called our parents on Paul and Fiona’s sat phone – obviously we would love to tell all our brothers and sisters and friends individually, but unfortunately logistics are a bit difficult here, so hope you understand.
So now just chilling out at Base Camp and looking forward to watching Paul and Fiona trying out the icefall tomorrow! The camp is pretty luxurious and the scenery fantastic.
